Paging Dr. Stevens? Don't count on it, Seattle Grace.
According to reports, Katherine Heigl is not likely to be back on Grey's Anatomy after the current season. The ABC show's creator, Shonda Rimes, has apparently agreed to release Heigl from her contract, but a final exit agreement needs to be worked out.
Heigl, who adopted baby Naleigh in 2009, was due back on set following her three-month maternity leave. Instead of returning to the show that made her a household name, she did not return to work.
In her most recent Grey's episode, Heigl's character Dr. Izzie Stevens walked away from the hospital, leaving viewers to wonder whether she'll be back. At least the producers were smart enough to leave an open-ended story line!
It's no secret that Heigl has been vying to get out of her contract early. In July she notoriously tried to embarrass execs by complaining to Dave Letterman about her 17-hour workday. Heigl reportedly said that being on set did not feel the same without her best friend T.R. Knight, whose character George was killed off.
