Awkward Kardashian Family Photos

I love the Kardashians as much as the next girl, but this year's Christmas card is just wrong. With all the millions they raked in from Kim's fairytale fake wedding, you'd think momager Kris could afford to hire a reasonably talented photoshopper. Instead, we get this: Kim's plastic, Khloe's a toothpick and Kourtney inherited Kim's ass.

Sorry - just stating the obvious here.

Easily rivalling the late Diana for the best dressed princess, Kate Middleton wowed the world in Alexander McQueen today. The Duchess of Cambridge attended the A Night of Heroes, an annual awards show to honour British servicemen and women, with her husband, Prince William. The dapper duo look better each team they leave the house. Not fair.

Kate Says Thanks to the Jewish News

photo via
The it girl herself, Kate Middleton, took some time out from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee to thank the Jewish News. "I would like to thank all your readers for all their wonderful support this year. It's amazing to think the wedding was just seven months ago. So much has happened since then." What an understatement!

Duchess Kate also appeared touched when told about the Jewish News' Mazel Tov souvenir poster. Her response: "I hope all your readers put the poster up."

Since the Canadian Jewish News never sent me my poster, my walls remain bare. Shame.

She's Just Being Miley

Salvia was so last year. After she was caught smoking salvia last year, Miley Cyrus' 19th birthday party was filled with references to marijuana.

One of Miley's so-called friends sent a video from her party to The Daily, causing yet another scandal for the former Disney star. The video shows Miley thanking the crowd and host Kelly Osbourne for the party. When Kelly brings out a Bob Marley cake, Miley says, "You know you're a stoner when friends make you a Bob Marley Cake. You know you smoke way too much fu*kin' weed."

The icing on the Bob Marley cake? When Kelly jumps in with, "I thought salvia was your problem."

Good luck talking your way out of this one, Miley.

The Big D

Kim Kardashian and Demi Moore are not private people. They made a conscious choice to embrace social media and bare their soles in 140 tweets. They both had very public relationships and are now both going through very public divorces.

While they're both over-sharers on Twitter, it's Kim who is the shameless attention seeker. Since splitting from Kris Humphries, Kim has made a conscious effort to stay in the forefront of the media world. From announcing her divorce on the morning the weeklies close to flying to Australia for a promotional appearance, Kim's heartbreak isn't as apparent as she might want as to think.

Demi, or @mrskutcher, has not played the media game. She's been relatively quiet on Twitter and announced her divorce on Thursday - the day the new weeklies hit the stands. Although the magazines will have lots of time to slot her into their new issues, Demi was smart to wait it out and hope they find another big story before closing the issue. Unlike Kim, Demi doesn't want her divorce plastered on the papers.

Who's That?

Before he loses his Kardashian connection, Kris Humphries decided to remind us how he landed Kim in the first place. The virtually unknown NBA player was part of the New Jersey Nets - pre lockout, of course. My boyfriend tells me Kris also played on my hometeam, the Toronto Raptors, but I have no recollection of this. Could be because I don't pay attention to sports, but it's also because Kris wasn't a "name" until he started dating Kim. Sad, but so true.

Anyways, Kris decided to head to his local Minnesota gym in his Nets regalia. He's currently a free agent (right, Jordan?!) so he's not a Net. Why wear his Nets clothes? To remind people he has a future without Kim. Well, ok.

At least Kris has enough brain cells to realize he needs to start his bid for stardom now - before the ink dries on his divorce papers. He owes his current fame to his soon-to-be ex-wife, not his basketball career. Kris better find a new socialite to date - and fast. We hear Paris Hilton's still available...

Glee does Adele

Finally - the first good Glee performance of the season.

In 2000, my grade eight teacher asked us to enter the Royal Canadian Legion's Remembrance Day contest. We had the choice between submitting an essay, poem or artwork - I obviously chose the poem. To my surprise, I won five rounds of the contest with the essay below. While winning was obviously exciting to 13-year-old me, it was meeting the veterans at each of the ceremonies that meant the most to me. You can check out the full essay below.

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we remember. We remember all the soldiers who fought for the land, the people, their families and for the future. We remember all the soldiers who fought and died to give us a good life.

Many of the soldiers were from Canada. Even though the war was not here, they risked their lives to help others. Their ages ranged from 18 to 40. Some of them were younger than 18 and lied about their age in order to fight. At the beginning, they were intrigued by the war. By the time they finished packing their bags, they were scared. These men were fighting for their lives, and for ours.

The women helped too. With the men away, they had to take on their jobs and help with the war on the home front. They collected food, made weapons, helped the sick and did much more. "In a rotten pie, there is a bite of good." One could say this phrase applied to the opportunities that the women received when the men went to war. Before the war, women were not allowed to work. When the men had to leave to fight, the women took over the so-called "men's jobs." Once the war was over the women didn't want to stop working; they stood up for themselves and continued to work. Soon those so-called "men's jobs" became "people jobs."

Many children grew up without a father; many wives lived without their husbands; many parents lived without their children; and many girls lived without their boyfriends. They all lived in constant fear about whether they would ever see their loved ones again. For some, the last day of the war was one of the happiest days of their lives. For others, it started them on a road towards grief. Some people signed up to fight the war in groups. All these men were good friends. Tragically, in many of these cases, not all wold return.

To repay these brave men, both the ones living and the ones who have already passed on, we must remember. Remember their lives, their efforts and their bravery. So on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, take a moment to thank the soldiers, the Canadians and all the others, for giving you a good life.

72 Days NMA

I'm less than impressed with the graphics, but the Kim Kardashian - Kris Humphries NMA is pretty hilarious.

Oct 31, 2011

72 Days Later

After vowing to love each other for richer or for poorer, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries after 72 days of marriage. Don't worry, they're still rich. Very rich. Kim sold the rights to her wedding for a reported $17.9 million, meaning that she earned approximately $10,358.80 per hour of marriage. As if she needed any more money.

The majority of us saw the dissolution of this union quickly approaching, but the groom was apparently blindsided by the announcement. "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work." Well, Humphries, I think it's a little too late. For your next wife, you might want to try getting along with her family, making human noises (arf! arf!) and not proposing with messy flower petals after your she has a meltdown over messes. Yah, that's a good start.

The real question remains: was it all a media ploy? Kim told E!, her network, that "this was not an easy decision." I think Kim's only problem was figuring out when to announce the news! As THR reported, the convenient timing of the Monday morning divorce announcement gave the weeklies enough time to slide it onto the cover of their new issues. Calculating? Very.

The drama-filled Kardashian-Humphries union will play out on the small screen for our amusement in Kim and Kourtney Take New York. In the meantime, Kim better sort out her pricey wedding gifts and negotiate retribution to her sponsors. Would your brand want to be involved in the supposed sham wedding? It's great publicity, but bad association. Thoughts?

Happy Heidiween

photo via
There is no celebrity as dedicated to Halloween as Heidi Klum. Each year, the model designs an elaborate costume and throws a larger than life party to celebrate the holiday. This year's costume took a new meaning to the night of the living dead. Heidi arrived at Tao in Las Vegas on a gurney covered with a white bed sheet. As the sheet lifted, Heidi appeared, showing off every muscle as if her skin was ripped off. Gross, right?

photo via
"This year I wanted to be a dead person," Heidi said. The look was achieved with a painted body suit and an exorbitant amount of makeup. Kudos on the costume, Heidi. You're more dedicated to Halloween than I ever will be.

We Found Love

In case you haven't heard, Chris Martin is a little obsessed with Rihanna. The two collaborated on Coldplay's latest album, Mylo Xyloto, and Chris and co. performed a cover of RiRi's We Found Love on Radio One. I'm obsessed.

Daddy Dearest

photo via
George Clooney is an eternal bachelor. I'm quite confident in my statement. The silver fox himself has said that he's not looking for marriage or for a family. His constant stream of girlfriends might think they can change his outlook, but they can't. George Clooney is destined to remain a bachelor for eternity.

His latest girlfriend Stacy Kiebler seems to accept Clooney's wish to remain unwed, but former love Elisabetta Canalis did not. The duo were getting along just fine until Elisabetta gave an interview talking about her plans to get married and have kids. That's a major no-no in Clooney-land and Elisabetta was promptly dumped. The faux-celebrity then enlisted on Dancing with the Stars, was kicked off and is now making some interesting statements in order to stay relevant.

photo via
"He was a very special person for me - like a father," Elisabetta told Italian broadcaster Bruno Vespa in his new book This Love.

For those of you who skimmed over that last line, Elisabetta said that Clooney is like father to her. I don't know about you, Elisabetta, but I don't think it's normal to be intimate with your father. I understand she's upset that Clooney dumped her and promptly began dating Stacy, but her statement just doesn't sit well with me. Elisabetta needs to move on and find someone new to date. Oh, and she should probably make sure he doesn't turn into her father because that's just weird.

George - you'll never be a father to me.

Poison Ivy

When Kim Kardashian gets ready for Halloween, she goes all out. Forget dollar store costumes and cheap wigs - this reality star hired the pros to help her transform into Poison Ivy. Kim left her husband, Kris Humphries, at home and donned this outfit at Lavo in NYC. Surprised? Not really.

Mylo Xyloto

I rarely find an album I can listen to cover-to-cover, but Colday's Mylo Xyloto is absolutely brilliant. I've always had a soft spot for Chris Martin and co., but they've really outdone themselves with their latest album. I'm in love.

I'm scared of heights. No wait, I take that back. I'm terrified of heights. I hate looking down from my 11th floor condo balcony, I hate airplanes and I've had minor (read: major) freak-outs before zip lining and parasailing. Walking 1,168ft above the ground on the CN Tower's new EdgeWalk attraction doesn't exactly seem like the right activity for me, but I booked, I walked, I conquered.

I should start thinking my "bright" ideas through before I book them. I got the idea to take my boyfriend EdgeWalking for his birthday and booked the non-refundable activity before fully realizing just how terrifying the experience might be for me. I had a full month to digest the magnitude of my decision, but my nightmares of falling of the CN Tower constantly ruined my sleep.

The big day finally arrived and it honestly felt like a dream. I spent the 30 minute prep time quadruple checking my harness, remembering that one square meter of fabric can slow down a fall (thanks Dan Brown!) and saying a few prayers. I closed my eyes during the elevator ride up to the top of the pod and when it was my turn, ran out (they made me) onto the edge.

EdgeWalk seems like a distant dream now. The half hour spent walking the perimeter of the CN Tower went by in a flash and it seemed so surreal. It was an out-of-body experience - likely because I never thought I would willingly walk 1,168ft above the ground. I'm still terrified of heights, but I'm thrilled that I actually went through with it. If you're watching the video, I'm the girl with the death grip on the cable trying not to pass out.

Thinking of EdgeWalking? I suggest waiting until the attraction reopens in the summer. It was pretty chilly up there in October and our guide told us they are going to start offering sunset and twilight walks. Is it enough to get me back on the edge? Unlikely, but we'll see how the rest of the year goes.

Bing On

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's death was a pleasant surprise for the majority of the world, but fans of Matthew Perry's first sitcom knew it was coming

One of the story lines in the 1987 sitcom Second Chance featured the death of Colonel Gaddafi in 2011. The story centered on Chazz Russell, a man who dies in 2011 but isn't fit for heaven or hell. He goes back in time to help his past self live a better life. Before he reaches the gates of heaven, though, Gaddafi showed up for judgement following his death in 2011.

Steve Jobs

"No one wants to die. No one has ever escaped it. Death is very likely the single best invention of life." - Steve Jobs

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple." - Apple

"No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much." - Tim Cook, CEO, Apple

"Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half of our lives. The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely. - Bill Gates

"Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it. The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented." - President Barack Obama

"Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you." - Mark Zuckerberg

"From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no further than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met. On behalf of all of us at Google and more broadly in technology, you will be missed very much. My condolences to family, friends and colleagues at Apple." - Sergey Brin

"Today, we lost one of the most influential thinkers, creators and entrepreneurs of all time. Steve Jobs was simply the greatest CEO of his generation. While I am deeply saddened by his passing, I'm reminded of the stunning impact he had in revolutionizing the way people consume media and entertainment. My heart goes out to his family and to everyone who had the opportunity to work beside him bringing his many visions to life." - Rupert Murdoch

"Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply 'make it great.' He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a party of Pixar's DNA." - John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer, and Ed Catmull, President, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios

I don't know why Ryan's so embarrassed - I loved Sean!
